Kathleen Pavelko and O. Richard Bundy III Emphasize Multi-Issue Platforms, Breadth of PSU Experiences
Kathleen Pavelko and O. Richard Bundy, candidates for the Penn State Board of Trustees, announced today that they are coordinating their campaign efforts for alumni seats on the Board.
“Kathleen and I believe that Trustees elected to the Board need to be focused on the full range of very complex issues facing the University — access and affordability for our students; academic excellence and research preeminence; continued contributions to the economic and social progress of our Commonwealth and nation; and a restoration of the bonds of affection that so characterize the Penn State family,” Bundy said.
“While we are sympathetic to criticisms of the Board’s past actions, we are running as independent candidates because we believe that good governance rests upon calm and transparent leadership on multiple issues— and upon trustees who can build consensus and lead orderly decision-making on the difficult issues ahead,” Pavelko said. “We believe we have those qualities,” Bundy said.
Pavelko, who has the #1 position on the alumni ballot, is the President and CEO of WITF Public Media in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. She earned two degrees from Penn State (BA History ‘75 and MA Journalism ‘79), served twice as a staff member at Penn State Public Broadcasting (1979-1983; 1987-1996), and was an adjunct faculty member in then School of Communications. Pavelko has served on Penn State Harrisburg’s Advisory Board and was Penn State Harrisburg’s commencement speaker in December 2012. She is a Life Member of the Alumni Association and was honored with the Vice President for Outreach’s Award. Ms. Pavelko is married to emeritus faculty member Eugene N. Borza.
Bundy, who has the #18 position on the alumni ballot, is the current President and CEO of the University of Vermont Foundation, is also a two-time graduate of Penn State, with BA (’93) and MA (’96) degrees in History, and started his professional career with Penn State’s Office of Development and Alumni Relations. Rich is a State College native and 1989 graduate of State College Area High School, and is the son of long-time Penn State Blue Band Director, Dr. O. Richard Bundy, Jr. He is a life member of the Alumni Association and serves on the Vermont Chapter Board of Directors.
The two candidates plan coordinated communications through social media, advertising and the press. “While each of us has extensive personal and professional networks, we believe that coordinating our messages will amplify our voice in reaching out to fellow alumni,” Bundy and Pavelko said. “We think our experiences in non-profit governance, advancement and management—and our diverse experience with Penn State itself–are particularly relevant to the unique academic mission of a land-grant university.”
Penn State graduates can vote for Bundy and Pavelko beginning April 10 when ballots are distributed electronically by the Board of Trustees office. To request a ballot, or to learn more about the candidates, visit their websites at www.richbundy.org or www.kpavelko4psutrustee.com.
